INTENTIONS OF THE HOLY FATHER For people persecuted for the sake of faith and justice: may they find consolation and strength in the Holy Spirit. For the Pontifical Mission Societies: may they help all Christians, young and old, realize that they have a part to play in missionary work. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK – The First Fruits of Your Labor Regardless of whether you tithe or use some other method of measure, the return you make to God should come from the "first fruits" of your labor. This means that your return to God comes first, before paying all your other bills. If we give simply from what we have left over after all our needs are met, it is not really sacrificial. If there is no pain in our giving, then we can be sure that we are not giving enough. PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL PLEASE PRAY FOR: Those who are sick & for those who are their caregivers:

There are three types of planned gifts – those that are given and received now (cash, checks, stock or bonds, real estate, personal property); those that are decided upon or given now, but received at some time in the future (bequest through a well, owner and/or beneficiary of a life insurance policy, qualified retirement plan designation); and those where the benefits are shared by you and by the charity (gifts annuities, charitable trusts and others). Endowments and major gifts through planned giving will provide the Catholic parishes, schools, agencies and other ministries of the Diocese of Fort Worth with a confidence for the future. For more information on planned giving, feel free to contact Pat Miller, Catholic Foundation of North Texas of the Dio. of Fort Worth, 817-560-2452 x 116 or e-mail pmiller@fwdioc.org. HOSPITAL PATIENTS & PRIVACY ACT (HIPAA) Due to tightened standards of the Health and Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), hospitals are no longer allowed to provide lists of patients to anyone who asks for that information unless the patient or those responsible for them have given permission to do so. If you are a patient and want a visit from a Catholic chaplain or trained Catholic Church minister, you must indicate this when completing all those forms at entry time. If you fail to do so, a Catholic priest, nun, or other Church ministers will not be able to provide spiritual visits and sacraments – in the case of priests, the sacraments of anointing, Reconciliation, and the Holy Eucharist, and in the case of church ministers the Holy Eucharist. VOCATION AWARENESS The Sisters of Our Lady of Victory Center, 909 West Shaw St. in Fort Worth, will host each third Sunday of the month with the Celebration of the Eucharist at 10:30 am, dinner and a time of sharing at 11:30 am. VISITING THE SICK If you know of anyone who is homebound and unable to attend Mass, please call the church office (696-1253) with their name and phone number so they may be contacted. THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK Do you anticipate hospitalization for surgery or for illness? The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may be received prior to your hospital visit. This sacrament gives the grace of the Holy Spirit, helps strengthen one to bear suffering bravely, and if necessary, provides forgiveness of sins. A return to physical health may follow the reception of the sacrament. Also, if you suddenly go to the hospital please have a member of the family contact the parish office as soon as possible to receive the Anointing of the Sick. Call the church office number 696-1253 if it is after office hours, the answering service will contact Fr. John or Deacon Bills. WHERE DO DIVORCED PEOPLE STAND IN RELATION TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH? Divorce is not a sin; neither does it disqualify anyone from full participation in the sacraments, as long as that person has not remarried. However, many divorced people, remarried or not, easily feel “left out” or “second class”. With compassion and a desire for personal healing, the Catholic Church wants divorced people to have a sense of belonging and to participate fully in the sacramental life of the Church. To begin the process, contact your pastor or the Marriage Tribunal at 817-560-3300. Isn’t it time you came home? PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL Do you want to change television and its indecency and growing acceptance of immoral behavior? If so, then log on to www.parentstv.org. You will find letters to e-mail our senators and broadcast CEOs. Do it today for our children! DEAR GOD, I promise to think more about the words I use. I will replace words that hurt with words that encourage, I will not become discouraged when I am unable to choose words perfectly, I will not become disheartened when words are used against me, I will instead lean on the Word made flesh - You, Lord - and draw from Your strength each day, because You are my hope and my life. Amen
